WARNING: Major spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame.
Fans were wondering if and how the likes of Loki, Gamora and Heimdall would be addressed in the Marvel movie, given that their deaths in Avengers: Infinity War were not a result of the Snap.
When Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and Scott Lang went to retrieve the Space Stone from the Battle of New York in 2012, they encountered difficulty when Loki stoke it – and promptly disappeared.
This sparked the question of whether or not Loki is still alive in the present day – or if he’s alive in a different timeline altogether.
Was it merely a means to spark his own spin-off TV series, which was recently confirmed to be streaming on Disney+?
It’s had fans pretty confused, but one fan theory claims to shut the whole thing down – explaining how Loki can just be as dead as he was before.
User movieman994, in a post that has been 85% Upvoted, said: “After Loki botched their space stone plans, Tony and Cap go back in 1970 to get the space stone.
“Cap then returns it to 1970 at the end, and when returning the Mind and Time stones he also informs Tony Cap Scot and Hulk to not get the space stone rather travel back.
“No distractions caused and no Loki escape.”
That scenario would put no less than three different versions of Steve Rogers at the Battle of New York in 2012, but does it solve the problem? Or does it make the logic even messier?
In any case, actor Tom Hiddleston has remained tight-lipped on Loki’s involvement in the movie.
Meanwhile, Gamora’s return is seemingly open-ended after she was nowhere to be found at the end of Avengers: Endgame.
Did she turn to dust with the rest of the Black Order when Tony Stark got rid of them via another Snap? Or is she out in the world somewhere?
That, presumably, will form part of the basis of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, which will go into production in 2021.
Avengers: Endgame is out now.
