Avengers Endgame is finally here. The Infinity War sequel is packed with huge storylines and heartbreaking endings. However, it also includes a wonderful array of cameos and nods to many of the previous MCU movies. The biggest surprise was the first ever inclusion of a character from the Marvel Television universe. Plenty of characters like Phil Coulson have crossed over into TV shows like Agents of Shield, plus cameos from the likes of Lady Sif. But one man has just made the leap in the other direction.
Warning: major spoilers from here.
Much of the film concerns a desperate hunt through the past to locate the Infinity Stones and reverse the Snap. In one segment, Captain America and Iron Man go back to the military base at Camp where SHIELD (and Hydra) were working in secret.
This leads to a hugely emotional moment when Tony Stark meets his father, Howard. Of course, Tony can’t reveal who he is, but there is a great sense of catharsis and forgiveness towards a father who he had always resented and tried to please.
During the encounter, Tony also sees a hugely popular character from another spin-off Marvel television show.
Howard Stark’s butler/driver (and right-hand man), of course, was Jarvis.
British actor James D’Arcy reprises the role of Edwin Jarvis from the Agent Carter series. It is one of the smaller cameos in terms of star power and importance to the Avengers storylines but it is hugely important if it opens the door for other Marvel heroes and villains from the TV shows to cross onto the big screen.
And, of course, it adds another layer of texture to the appearance of another tear-jerking character.
While Tony is running into Howard and Jarvis, Steve Rogers is inside peering longingly through a window at the love of his life.
Hayley Atwell’s return as Peggy Carter is probably the biggest fan-pleaser of the entire movie. Although she does not see him in this scene, the very final scene of the movie reveals that the lovers are finally reunited forever.
