Easter 2019: Will Jesus return this Easter – What does the Bible say about Second Coming? | Weird | News

Easter Sunday, also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a religious festival which is held to mark the day on which Jesus was resurrected from the dead. The miraculous event is described in the Bible as occurring on the third day after his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary, which is today marked by Good Friday. To this day, some Christians still believe in the Second Coming – that is to say that Christ really will return to Earth after his ascension to heaven.

The idea of the Second Coming is based on messianic prophecies and is part of most Christian eschatologies, theories concerning mankind’s final destiny.

Jesus is said to have returned after his death for a short while before he was due to ascend to heaven.

When his disciples asked when he would return, he said he did not know and according to the Christian faith, Jesus has not been seen again since.

Matthew 24:36 states: “No one knows, not even the angels in heaven… only the Father…Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.

“You must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”

And as incredible as this seems, Christians continue to believe the Second Coming could still happen.

This is because much that was predicted about Jesus’ first coming in the Old Testament came true – and Jesus was never found to have been caught out in a lie.

If Jesus really was the son of God, Christians reason he could not possibly have lied.

Matthew 24:29 states Jesus saying: “The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.

“Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven.

“And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.

“And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”

In Matthew 24:3-31 Jesus’ disciples also asked: “What will be the sign of your coming?”

And Jesus replied that before that time, there would be people who pretended to be him, saying: “Watch out that no one deceives you.

“For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive man.”
