Marvel star Batista reveals how hard it was to book WrestleMania clash with Triple H | WWE | Sport

The Animal hasn’t been a full-time WWE wrestler ever since 2014 when he built an impressive career in Hollywood and got cast in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as well as Avengers: Infinity War.

But the six-time world champion always wanted to return for one last match at WrestleMania against his former mentor Triple H.

The WWE legends finally agreed to clash at Mania this year and started planting the seeds on SmackDown’s 1,000th episode last October during an Evolution reunion with former team-mates Ric Flair and Randy Orton.

However, the fight almost got cancelled as Triple H tore his pectoral muscle at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia when he and Shawn Michaels defeated The Undertaker and Kane.

According to Wrestling Inc, The Game didn’t give up on his former protege’s wish and decided to put everything on the line in order to recover in time for the Show of Shows.

The 14-time world champion regained full fitness just before The Showcase of the Immortals and managed to beat the wrestler-turned-actor in a No Holds Barred Match.

Batista told Lilian Garcia on Chasing Glory: “When I was leaving [SmackDown 1000] and was leaving Washington D.C that night to go back to Toronto, Canada, Hunter told me, ‘Get in shape motherf****r’, and I knew it was going to happen.

“He hit me up I believe a month later and said that he tore his pec, it was just meant not to be, and I just didn’t think it was going to happen.

“Not even a couple of months later, he told me that he was going to be healed up by WrestleMania and asked me if I still wanted to do it.

“I said that I did want to do it, but he was cutting it close.

“I think he was just cleared to start working out a couple of weeks ago.

“He put it all on the line to give me this.

“I am 50 now, he’s going to be 50 in a couple of months and I believe he is on the same page with me.

“He is starting to get injured here and there over simple things and we have evolved to do other things.

“And our careers have evolved and neither of us want to fall apart in front of the fans’ eyes.

“Nobody wants to see that.”
