CHELSEA vs WEST HAM

  • Chelsea are unbeaten in 12 home league meetings against West Ham
  • Olivier Giroud has had a hand in nine goals in 11 Premier League games against West Ham
  • Eden Hazard has registered a league-high 12 assists in this campaign
  • West Ham could go four Premier League matches without defeat in this fixture for the first time in 19 years

Chelsea XI: Kepa, Azpi, Rudiger, Luiz, Emerson, Kante, Jorginho, Loftus-Cheek, Hudson-Odoi, Higuain, Hazard.

West Ham XI: Fabianski, Fredericks, Balbuena, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Rice, Noble, Arnautovic, Lanzini, Anderson, Hernandez.

Home comforts

19:45: Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 12 home league meetings with West Ham (W8 D4) since a 2-3 loss in September 2002.

Carra’s advice

19:40: Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville are battling it out on Sky Sports’ MNF. After a brief discussion about tonight’s match – they’ve started rambling about Liverpool.

I managed to get a bit about Carra’s plan for Callum Hudson-Odoi.

“If I was Hudson-Odoi I wouldn’t sign a new deal. He’s in a very strong position. I love the fact he hasn’t signed a contract, not because of the money thing or because of Bayern Munich, but because he wants to play,” Carragher said.

“I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way, he’d be saying to Chelsea: ‘Prove to me next season how important I am to you by playing me.'”

I have my doubts

19:35: Maurizio Sarri has said he would take a pay cut if it meant the Premier League helping English teams in Europe through more sympathetic fixture scheduling.

Sarri has questioned the Premier League’s “very strange” decision to schedule Chelsea’s West Ham clash for Monday night, just three days before the Blues’ Europa League trip to Slavia Prague.

Asked if he would take a pay cut for a more favourable fixture list, Sarri said: “Yes of course, because the salary is not so important for me. It is important to have fun, for me. To work without working, because for me, it’s not work.”

What’s that phrase? If you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life…

Twitter round-up

Grant: Now I realise that Chelsea’s attack will be H2O! Hazard, Higuain and Odoi. How on earth Maurizio Sarri didn’t know that he had the formula of water on the attack! This is NASA-level stuff.

Wow. I’m speechless Grant. Without doubt the strangest tweet I’ve ever received. Congratulations… I think.

Stick to your guns…

19:25: Manager supporting manager? It’ll ever catch on. Actually relationships between managers in the Premier League have been rather pleasant since Jose, Pulis, Arsene and Big Sam left. Strange that…

Anyway, Manuel Pellegrini believes Chelsea counterpart Maurizio Sarri is right to stick with his philosophy despite the scepticism at Stamford Bridge.

“It is more hard when you don’t obtain the results that you want. Players will trust it if they see that by playing that way you win,” Pellegrini said.

“As a manager, you must be used to that pressure, but you must continue doing what you believe is the best way to win a game, before the game and during the game.

“If you are always feeling you must change something because the pressure will be too high? I don’t think you can be a top manager.”

Big Kurt Zouma…

19:20: The forgotten man is doing a pretty good job over at Goodison Park.

Chelsea loanee Kurt Zouma was excellent against Arsenal yesterday and has been solid in the middle of Marco Silva’s defence.

The Toffees want to make his stay permanent – but the player himself refused to commit to… well he refused to answer the question really.

Asked what his next step would be, he replied: “I don’t know yet. We have five more games to play and then we will see.

“I am very happy (here). My aim was to come and play and improve myself and I think I have done here. I hope we will finish the season very high.”

What do you reckon Chelsea fans, should you take the money or have him back at Stamford Bridge?

Team News – West Ham

19:15: Manuel Pellegrini makes FIVE change from the side who were absolutely abysmal against Everton.

Pablo Zabaleta, Issa Diop, Robert Snodgrass, Pedro Obiang and Lucas Perez are all dropped from the starting XI.

Ryan Fredericks, Fabian Balbuena, Felipe Anderson, Chicharito and Mark Noble all return to the side.

Team News – Chelsea

19:10: Maurizio Sarri makes two changes from the side who thrashed Brighton last week. I can call a 3-0 scoreline a thrashing, right?

Anyway, Gonzalo Higuain and Antonio Rudiger come in for Andreas Christensen and Olivier Giroud, who drop to the bench.

That means Ruben Loftus-Cheek (hamstring) has recovered while Callum Hudson-Odoi starts for the second successive Premier League game. Pedro is cleared and is named on the bench.

Twitter round-up

Alex: Triple H starts up front which I can understand since Olivier Giroud is on fire in Europa League glad to see CHO start again and RLC for that matter! Emerson rightfully keeps his place in the Premier League. A little disappointed to see Rudiger regain his place tho other than that – good XI!

Sam: Back to back starts for CHO RLC and Emerson, Christensen should be in as well but finally Sarri playing his best players, only taken him till April, better late than never I suppose!

Eel: Odoi & RLC, that’s interesting. Didn’t expect both to start today, considering the other 2 important games this week. 3 points all that matters though, come on Chels!

Starting XI…

19:00: As ever, with an hour to go the teams have been announced. Regular as clockwork.

Callum Hudson-Odoi starts his second successive match alongside Eden Hazard. Manuel Pellegrini has named a very attacking side.

Chelsea XI: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Emerson, Jorginho, Kante, Loftus-Cheek, Hudson-Odoi, Hazard, Higuain.

Subs: Caballero, Barkley, Pedro, Kovacic, Giroud, Willian, Christensen.

West Ham XI: Fabianski, Fredericks, Balbuena, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Noble, Rice, Anderson, Arnautovic, Lanzini, Chicharito.

Subs: Adrian, Snodgrass, Obiang, Nasri, Diop, Masuaku, Perez.

Twitter round-up

Greg: Maurizio Sarri should make sure he wins this match or be ready to pack up his bags and leave.

Shane: Nervously waiting for the Starting line-up to get published! Wouldn’t change the team that started in that 3-0 win against Brighton last week. But you know Maurizio Sarri will rock the boat…

Well I thought Maurizio Sarri had turned a corner – evidently not based on Greg’s menacing tweet.

Tonight’s Hot topic

18:55: Faint whiff of Alan Partridge about that headline…

Anyway, we have plenty to discuss tonight including Callum Hudson-Odoi, Gonzalo Higuain, Marko Arnautovic, Eden Hazard and his brother – who has made a rather interesting announcement.

What could it be I wonder… Oh, you already know? OK, well he’s leaving Borussia Monchengladbach. Surprise ruined.

Evening…

18:50: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Premier League.

We all ready for a Laaaandan derby? Splendid.

We’re at Stamford Bridge tonight to see whether Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea can capitalise on Arsenal’s blunder against Everton yesterday.

At 1-0 down against Cardiff a few weeks ago – things we’re looking grim for Maurizio Sarr.

But a controversial comeback, followed by the trouncing of Brighton and a favour from Everton has totally changed the picture.

Chelsea could leapfrog Arsenal AND Tottenham with three points tonight. As for West Ham, well, a top-half finish remains the objective.
