Apex Legends Battle Pass releasing today?
UPDATE ONE: Respawn has confirmed that the Apex Legends Season 1 Battle Pass will not be rolling out today.
A new statement covering the Origin landing page update and data mining news has been shared and can be found below:
“So between the datamining and the unintentional update about Season 1 on Origin today, there’s been a lot of speculation and confusion so we wanted to give some clarity,” the Respawn statement reads.
“We’ll be providing details on Season 1, Battle Pass, and the next Legend very soon. It’s not coming out today.
“There’s lots of stuff that has been datamined from Apex since launch and is swirling around the Internet. We know this stuff is fun to dig up and speculate about, but you should not treat any of that info as a source of truth. There’s stuff in there that is very old, or things we’ve tried in the past and cut–remember our design process is to prototype and play lots of ideas–and some of it may be things we’re still building for Apex Legends.
“Finding this stuff by no means confirms that it’ll ever come out. At best you should treat any posts about this as a rumor and the real info will come from us when we’re ready to show off what’s coming next.
“Thank you to everyone for staying patient through this and hang tight. We’re excited to get Season 1 kicked off and having you grinding on that Battle Pass with a new Legend to master soon.”
ORIGINAL: While fans are hoping that the new Apex Legends Battle Pass will be dropping today, there could be another big Season 1 update coming soon.
Fans have spotted an update on the official Apex Legends Origins Landing Page which shows a new Legends character.
Octane was leaked a few weeks ago by data miners and is expected to be the game’s first new character to be released.
This is expected to happen during Season 1 and data miners even found evidence to suggest it would happen on March 12.
That means a big new Apex Legends update could be coming later today, including Octane.
That doesn’t mean that the Apex Legends Battle Pass will be going live with it on PS4, Xbox One and PC, however, there have been some interesting developments.
Twitter user, @shrugtal, who first spotted the image change of Octane, also posted the blurb that goes with it.
It reportedly states: “Welcome to the Wild Frontier – Survive the arena, meet Apex Games’ latest legend, Octane, wield new weapons and score unique loot.
“The Season 1 Battle Pass is here, purchase it at the in-game store for 950 Apex Coins.”
As Season 1 will be the official start of a new content cycle, there’s a chance that Respawn will wait another week to launch the Battle Pass.
The development team has already confirmed that characters will not be available as part of the Battle Pass.
Which means both content updates can happen on different dates during a season, which will last around three months.
However, this image appears to tie the release of Octane with the launch of the Apex Legends Battle Pass.
So there is a chance we will see a massive new update go live tonight, containing both a new character and the Battle Pass.
“The Battle Pass is a seasonal system that rewards players with exclusive cosmetic items,” the official Apex site confirms.
“These rewards are a mix of exclusive seasonal cosmetics and Apex Packs. Every player can unlock some of these items each season through normal play; those who choose to purchase the Battle Pass can earn everything available that season, around 100 different rewards.
“Legends will not be included in the Battle Pass. The Battle Pass gives players exclusive cosmetic items and Apex Packs.”
Respawn remains coy on the details, but data miners believe they have found some interesting new information.
Some of the more obvious stuff is the release of New Legends character skins, among other cosmetic items.
A new Apex Legends update could be arriving today
A ‘battle pass bonus’ has also been found in the data files for Apex Legends but does not include any information on what it will do for gamers.
There’s also evidence to suggest that Apex Legends will support both a paid and free version of the Battle Pass, at least during Season One.
Octane is expected to be the next character released by Respawn for Apex Legends on PS4, Xbox and PC.
Based on a recent leak, the new character will be able to move across the map much faster than his fellow combatants.
Octane will also reportedly have a passive skill that lets him regenerate health when outside of combat.
However, there could be plenty of stuff we don’t know about the new Legends and how it will fit into the overall game meta.
