With the race for the White House heating up, Trump took to Twitter to rage about the treatment he received during Congress. According to CNN, Trump was infuriated by rival Democrats launching an investigation into him. But posting on the social media platform, the President appeared to argue he cannot be beaten for the top job next year.
He said: “The Democrats in Congress yesterday were vicious and totally showed their cards for everyone to see.
“When Republicans had the majority they never acted with such hatred and scorn.
“The Dems are trying to win an election in 2020 that they know they cannot legitimately win!”
After his latest outburst, Kayleigh McEnany, Trump’s 2020 election campaign press secretary, said in a statement: “These desperate Democrats know they cannot beat President Trump in 2020, so instead they have embarked on a disgraceful witch hunt with one singular aim: topple the will of the American people and seize the power that they have zero chance at winning legitimately.”
At present 12 Democratic candidates have confirmed that they will run to be voted as the party’s nominee.
Notably, 2016 election hopeful Bernie Sanders has put forward his nomination while Californian senator Kamala Harris has also joined the race.
Trump announced he would be standing for election again but his former rival Hilary Clinton has said she would not be running again.
The pair were involved in a bitter dispute during the last election, with Trump eventually winning the race.
Ms Clinton told New Jersey News 12: “I’m not running, but I’m going to keep on working and speaking and standing up for what I believe.
“I want to be sure that people understand I’m going to keep speaking out.”
She added: “I’m not going anywhere. What’s at stake in our country and the kind of things that are happening right now are deeply troubling to me.
“I’m also thinking hard about how do we start talking and listening to each other again? We’ve just gotten so polarized.”
